Caladium (Caladium), also known as the Heart of Jesus, Angel Wing or Elephant Year, is a genus of about 14 species of Araceae bulb-shaped herbs that grow naturally in the tropical New World. Some members of the genus, especially Caladium bicolor, are widely cultivated for their flashy and fragile-looking, different-colored leaves, and many cultivars have been developed. The leaves are usually heart-shaped or arrowhead-shaped. Caladium is a non-durable ornamental plant that is used indoors and outdoors in the summer. They hold up surprisingly well when protected from the cold and winter drafts. All parts of the plant contain crystals of calcium oxalate and are considered toxic.
